Morocco: competition law at the service of sustainable development

23/10/2024

The Chairman of the Moroccan Competition Council has announced a project aimed at establishing a framework to encourage collaboration in the electrical terminals sector.

This initiative, aimed at adapting the rules on anti-competitive agreements to agreements between companies that promote sustainable development, comes at a time when competition authorities are increasingly taking environmental issues into account. The French Competition Council has announced the forthcoming publication of guidelines dedicated to sustainable development, while the European Commission has included a section on sustainability agreements in its Horizontal Guidelines in July 2023 and the French Competition Authority has published a Communiqué on the Authority’s informal guidelines on sustainable development in December 2023.

The aim of these initiatives is to provide companies and trade associations wishing to develop projects with a sustainable development objective with a clear framework enabling them to check that their agreements comply with competition law.
